Ardèche Hermitage
Shaded rivers, natural pools and picnic spots — coolness within reach.
This little guide helps you explore the Ardèche Hermitage. Distances are indicated from La Grange de la Chouette, our basecamp near Saint-Félicien, designed for group stays.
Between Colombier and Arlebosc, the Doux offers many easy access points to cool off. For more shade and calm, favor the natural pools of the Ay or Daronne Gorges.
In case of strong heat, Retourtour lake (Lamastre) remains the most reliable option for a developed swimming area.
Specially developed for summer swimming. Supervised swimming in season, popular stop for Mastrou travelers. Wooded walks to Retourtour castle, catering nearby.
Accès libre · Gratuit · Idéal en famille
Wild and calm setting, with some natural beaches and many shaded spots. Ideal for picnicking and cooling your feet, especially around the suspension bridge. Low flow generally doesn't allow for real swimming.
Randonnée · Nature préservée
The Ay river winds through small gorges, offering a wild and soothing natural setting. Shaded banks ideal for a picnic. In midsummer, the level often drops — more contemplative walk than real swimming.
